The 2004 Precedent: A Step-by-Step Capitulation
In response to massive public opposition to their Oak Creek coal plant expansion, We Energies struck a multi-million dollar deal with the Caledonia Town Board to neutralize the opposition. This set the playbook.
July 2024: Secret Preparations Begin
The August 2025 "Pre-Development Agreement" confirms the Village was working with the developer since at least July 2024, a full year before public notice.
September 9, 2025: Residents Show Up in Force
The community demonstrated its powerful and unified opposition. A total of 38 residents attended the Village Board meeting, with 12 brave individuals speaking out publicly against the project, sending a clear message to the board.
September 23, 2025: Overwhelming Opposition & The Big Reveal
Community opposition reached a fever pitch, with ~150 residents packing the Village Hall and over 30 speaking against the project. In a "hand-raise poll," the room showed near-unanimous opposition. On this same day, Village President Tom Weatherston finally confirmed to TMJ4 that the secret client is Microsoft.
September 24, 2025: Microsoft's Q&A and a Key Admission
Microsoft held a community Q&A event. At this event, President Weatherston admitted he had known the client was Microsoft for "about three months," confirming leadership kept the community in the dark since approximately June 2025.
UPCOMING - September 29, 2025: The Committee Recommendation
The Special Comprehensive Plan Committee (SCPC) will meet to discuss the project and give their recommendation to the Village Board. Please note: their vote is NON-BINDING. This is an important step, but not the final decision.
ACTION: Attend the 6:00 PM meeting. Meet outside at 5:30 PM to show our unified opposition.
CRITICAL HEARING - October 14, 2025: Potential Final Village Board Vote
The SCPC's recommendation will be presented to the full Village Board, who may hold their first BINDING VOTE on the rezoning. This is the next critical date where the final decision could be made. We must pack the Village Hall.
